Comprehensive Support at Every Stage

From the moment an investigation begins through reentry into your community, we provide strategic guidance tailored to your unique circumstances.

📑

Pre-Sentencing Consulting

The period before sentencing is the most critical window for shaping your outcome. We work alongside your defense attorney to build a comprehensive mitigation strategy.

  • Sentencing memorandum support and personal narrative development
  • Mitigation strategy that humanizes you before the court
  • Realistic preparation for potential outcomes
  • Coordination with your legal team for a unified strategy
🏛️

Prison Designation & Placement

Where you serve your sentence matters enormously — for your safety, your access to programs, and your family's ability to visit. We help you pursue the best possible designation.

  • Facility analysis based on security level, programs, and location
  • DSCC designation request strategy and preparation
  • Understanding the factors that influence placement decisions
  • Medical and mental health accommodation requests
📘

Life Inside Preparation

Knowing what to expect transforms fear into readiness. We prepare clients for the reality of daily life in a federal facility, including strategies for early release.

  • Day-to-day expectations, rules, and routines
  • RDAP (Residential Drug Abuse Program) eligibility and strategy
  • First Step Act time credit opportunities
  • Programming, work assignments, and productive time use
🕊️

Presidential Clemency

For those who have demonstrated genuine rehabilitation, Presidential Clemency may offer a path forward. We provide comprehensive assistance throughout this process.

  • Clemency petition preparation and narrative development
  • Advocacy within the Executive Branch
  • Coordination with legal counsel and supporters
  • Strategic guidance on timing and presentation

Presidential Clemency:
A Second Chance When It Matters Most

Presidential Clemency is one of the most powerful — and least understood — mechanisms in the federal system. Whether seeking a commutation of sentence or a full pardon, the process demands careful preparation, compelling storytelling, and strategic advocacy.

At Federal Case Consultants, we guide clients through every step: evaluating eligibility, building a persuasive petition that demonstrates rehabilitation and community impact, and advocating through appropriate channels within the Executive Branch.

This is not simply a legal filing — it's a case for redemption. We help you tell your story in a way that resonates with decision-makers who have the power to change your life.

Interests & Advocacy

World Travel Cycling Skiing Rock Climbing Mental Health Reform BOP Reform Advocacy Guide Dog Training

I am a federal criminal case consultant who supports defendants and their families in navigating the personal and professional challenges that arise from a criminal investigation and subsequent proceedings.

With over twenty years of experience as an attorney, I use my legal education and practical knowledge to help clients plan for what I call a "crash landing." My work bridges the gap between legal strategy and the real-world rules and regulations of the Bureau of Prisons — the things that textbooks and case law don't teach you.

"I help clients build a foundation for their brighter future by offering professional expertise and unique knowledge about how the Bureau of Prisons actually works."

I assist legal teams and individuals in understanding how the BOP operates in practice — not just on paper. This includes everything from facility designation and daily life to early release opportunities and Presidential Clemency applications.

Beyond my professional work, I am an advocate for mental health treatment and meaningful reforms within the Bureau of Prisons. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah, with my wife and two daughters. As a family, we raise guide dogs for the blind and prepare them for advanced training — a pursuit that reminds me daily of the power of patience, dedication, and second chances.

Questions We Hear Often

If you don't see your question below, don't hesitate to reach out. Every situation is unique, and we're happy to discuss yours.

A federal prison consultant helps individuals and their attorneys navigate the practical realities of the federal criminal justice system — particularly the Bureau of Prisons. This includes pre-sentencing preparation, understanding facility designation, preparing for daily life inside, identifying early release opportunities, and in some cases, pursuing Presidential Clemency. We complement your legal team with specialized, real-world knowledge.
The earlier, the better. Ideally, we begin working with you or your client during the pre-sentencing phase, when there is the greatest opportunity to influence outcomes. However, we regularly assist individuals at every stage — including those who are already in custody and seeking designation changes, program access, or clemency.
We serve as a member of your defense team, providing specialized BOP knowledge that strengthens your overall strategy. We can contribute to sentencing memoranda, prepare clients for what to expect, advise on designation strategy, and provide ongoing support. Communication with the legal team is collaborative and confidential.
Presidential Clemency includes commutations (reducing a sentence) and pardons (forgiving the conviction). The process involves preparing a detailed petition demonstrating rehabilitation, gathering supporting materials, and advocating through channels within the Executive Branch. It requires patience and meticulous preparation — and it helps to have experienced guidance at every step.
Absolutely. Families are often just as affected as the defendant, and they face their own set of challenges — emotional, logistical, and financial. We help families understand what to expect, how to maintain connection, and how to navigate the system alongside their loved one. Supporting the family is a critical part of supporting the client.
Yes. All consultations and communications with Federal Case Consultants are treated with the utmost confidentiality. We understand the sensitivity of your situation and take privacy seriously. When working as part of a legal team, our communications may also be protected under attorney-client privilege and work product doctrine.
